Best of Filipino Culture

Have you heard this short phrase? Where? Are you familiar with it? Well, there’s probably no other Filipino value that will make you love the Philippines and its people more than the one represented by this expression. It basically means that no one is left behind.

That is what Filipinos are all about. Pinoys stick together as one, which is why you’ll find a Filipino community in nearly every corner of the world.

Filipino culture and tradition are important to each and every Filipino in the Philippines. Especially before every Filipino must learn and follow the traditional way of Filipino culture. The old ones are more careful about showing and teaching the younger one about Filipino tradition and cultures. The Philippines culture has a big part in every Filipino life. It influences the people to apply it in their daily life and be a good example to a younger Filipino. Filipino culture is unique to other countries.

Let me ask you, how do you define culture? Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. The word “culture” derives from a French term, which in turn derives from the Latin “colere,” which means to tend to the earth and grow, or cultivation and nurture. Here in the Philippines, we have a lot of culture and this is one of my favourite unique Filipino culture, Filipino people take pride for their family, in what term? Like even though they have their own family, still they understand his/her family and support their family in financial, emotional, and other more aspects. Even though they have closest friend wherein they called part of their family because they go to the house of their friends and talk to the parents of their friends, and actually I want to share to you guys my personal experience. My parents treated my friends as part of their family because when my friends go to our house; my parents will make a coffee for them, and buy foods for them. Also, my friends’ favourite “tambayan” is our house because they feel very welcomed in our house everyday and they feel like our home is very hospitable and accommodating. Well, I guess they really applying what the saying says, “feel at home”.

And also the student or Filipino culture where they eat street food together before going home from their schools. For me, it was a unique and one of a happy Filipino culture because it makes the friendship or relationship stronger. You ate together and talk a lot about life. In my experience in this culture, it was so happy and feels so good. Everytime we go home from our schools, me and my friends go to our favorite “tambayan”or “kainan”. We make “ambagan” or sometimes “kanya kanyang bayad”or called kkb. We usually do these activities after school especially after the heel week or exams, this was our mini celebration for us that we surpass the exams or activities. We also have an agreement like we set a meeting place and the one who will be will be late is the one who will treat us. As well as every time we go to our class we have placed where we going to meet each other and we go to our room together. This culture was fun and great and it shows how Filipinos friendly are and it makes relationship of each other stronger and better.

More than that Filipinos are very resilient. In times of calamities and severe trials in life, we are still able to rise up despite those challenges we faced. We can still put smile in our lips and we still fighting and never give up no matter what. Filipinos have gone through many calamities and problems that prove that the Filipinos are resilient. One of those is what happened before which is the Typhoon Ulysses. There are a lot of places and people have been affected of those calamities but despite of those, Filipinos are still fighting and they help each other to start again. By that, it shows how Filipinos strong are. Many people conduct a donation drive to help all people who was affected by that typhoon and even all the Filipino who worked broad they give or donate for our kababayan.

And the most unique Filipino culture that I really like the most is how they value the traditions and culture, tradition like in our family we pray before we eat and my mom’s make a schedule for us who assigned for washing our dishes. And also we celebrate festival, birthdays and some gathering with our family and friends. But in our family sometimes we do the intimate one because we just want to enjoy every single day with our family and have more fun.

What is traditional tattooing in the Philippines? Whang-od now applies the batok (the traditional hand-tapped tattooing) to tourists visiting Buscalan. She uses ink composed of a mixture of charcoal and water that will be tapped into the skin through a thorn end of a calamansi orpomelo tree. Similar to the pintados, the highland tribes of the Cordillera also practiced tattoo rituals or pagbabatuk. The primary purpose of tattooing amongst the Ifugao, Kalinga, and Bontoc ethnic groups are related to headhunting; tattoos signify a man’s transition from being a recognized headhunter to a fearsome warrior. Tattoo is very popular and unique culture here in the Philippines and whang-od is the who know as great tattoo artist here in the Philippines because of her unique tattoo materials and ideas in making tattoo.

We have a lot of tradition and culture unique, we need to do is to keep and treasure those culture na pamana sa atin n gating mga ninuno. Be proud in our own culture and let’s introduce our culture to all people around the world. Don’t forget to have communication with our family, friends and other people because communication is the key to become our culture is popular.
